The Glennon-ISH Gals in SF

My mother’s maiden name is Glennon. I kept my dad’s last name, Solbjor, even after their divorce because as a child, after he left, I had hoped if I kept my last name the same as his, it would increase the chances that he’d be able to find me if he chose to come back and be my dad (fr fr).

My mom often told me I reminded her of her own mom (who passed away before I was born). She’d joke that maybe I was her mom reincarnated. Regardless, the older I get, the more connected I feel to my mom’s mom. Even though I didn’t meet her. Regardless, I know the spirit of being a Glennon is alive and well in my heart (in some ways).

Last weekend, my mom and I ventured to SF. I watched Gilmore Girls when I was in college and I couldn’t help and connect to Lorelai and Rory because of some of the parallels of growing up with a single mother. When my mom and I were in SF, we went to Lori’s Diner. While Lori’s Diner wasn’t Luke’s… I couldn’t help but feel like we were the “Glennon Gals.” Our Cobbs salads to us as the burgers are to Lorelai and Rory.

“How do you think we’re similar?” I asked my mom, sitting across from her at Lori’s diner.

“Well, we both wash our hands a lot,” she replied.

I burst into laughter, my mom’s laughter duetting mine.

“I think that’s related to our similar sensory issues,” I responded.

“We have a similar sense of humor, our laughs are similar, and we both like to dance around,” she continued. “How do you think we’re similar?”

“I’ll have to get back to you with something to add other than what you already mentioned, so, to be continued,” I answered.
