Change Requires Space to Dream

Years ago, I had a therapist tell me “we have to focus on the reality that’s in front of us” when I was explaining to her what I was noticing and struggling with systemically and how I envisioned it could change. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because while I understand there is a necessity of being present to the reality in front of us, I can’t help and think “what if someone said that to Martin Luther King Jr.?” When we simply accept our reality and silence our ability to dream, change becomes stagnant. What if we focus on the reality in front of us and let it guide us to making our vision for the future a reality?
