Toyota Tales Part 1:

Turns out third time may not be the charm with this 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback. Toyota and I have been going steady since 2014.

Our LTTR (Long Term Toyota Relationship) first began in 2014 with my first car, Carrie (because CAR-RIE and The Carrie Diaries), which was a charcoal Toyota Yaris Sedan. She was a stable starter car.

Yet, in 2017 a bright blue Toyota Prius C named Ellie (because she’s electric and Ellie Goulding) inspired me to change gears environmentally. She was spark-tacular until traffic halted on the freeway and I watched through the rearview mirror as a driver didn’t stop and she was totaled on New Year’s Eve, Eve of 2020 amidst the COVID era.

Finally, I was introduced to a 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback in the color called “icicle” at Stevens Creek Toyota and though I named her Taylor, I didn’t do so because I anticipated the problems to be so swift. The auto break collision sensor feature to prevent collisions began breaking in moments that nearly caused collisions *though thankfully didn’t* (it would auto break when driving over metal sewer covers or any minor metal moments), leaving me sometimes spontaneously stopping in the middle of the street or intersection unless the auto break collision sensor is turned off. Despite reading the data on the car, they couldn’t find nor resolve the issue, so the auto break feature must get turned off each time before driving. Over the course of our relationship, Taylor the 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback had a recall regarding the fuel pump potentially causing the engine to stall, yet was allegedly resolved. Yet “Taylor the Toyota” has trekked on.

After thousands of dollars spent at the dealership on maintenance, special ordered tires (apparently Taylor the Toyota’s tires are the Ted Baker of tires), and a weaning warranty that no longer warrants a visit to the dealership. Today I brought Taylor the 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback to Wheel Works where I’ve historically had successful service with Toyota’s past in hopes to save time and money. She spent hours at Wheel Works and yet even after multiple checks she wobbled her way to my work today and post work threw a tantrum unlike any other…
